JOIN THE BOARD for 2025-2027 term
Are you interested in the business side of dance? Do you have experience with financial management, fundraising, and/or planning for non-profits, or love new learning opportunities? You could be the next member of Vivid Motion Dance’s Board of Directors! We're seeking passionate people who are committed to our vision, love Vivid Motion Dance, and want to ensure the organization remains a strong and important player in the Portland arts community for years to come.
Three seats are up for election at the end of April. Incumbent board members are seeking to remain on the board.
In addition to Board Member positions, the office of Treasurer is up for election. Duties of the Treasurer include oversight of finances, ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations, and advising on budget and project developments.
The Board meets quarterly to oversee the business side of Vivid Motion Dance, and monthly for working sessions. Its members uphold our mission of encouraging dance in the community by supporting main stage and small shows, as well as classes. It also plans fundraising and community events.
The Board keeps Vivid Motion Dance on track with its mission, votes on annual budgets prepared by the Executive Director and and seasons proposed by the Artistic Director, organizes community building events, finds sponsors, keeps Vivid Motion legal, and does whatever else it can to support the company to keep encouraging dance.
Board Member Expectations
- Members do not need to be local to Portland Maine.
- Members attend 4 quarterly meetings and at least 2 working sessions through the year. Attendance may be via video.
- Members make an annual financial contribution.
- Members volunteer and/or participate in community events (excluding dancing/tech/production in shows).
- Members be a point of contact for Vivid Motion community members as needed.
- Members make one individual annual learning goal for themselves.
- Members take time outside of Board meetings to educate themselves on subjects pertinent to Board position/Board governance. This can be via webinar or in person, YouTube Videos, books, etc.
- Members present and share knowledge of their learning with each other.
- Board members review progress goals bi-annually with a self-review/report.
